Fire Prevention Day at Grant School

On Friday, October 17th, Grant School welcomed the local volunteer fire department for Fire Prevention Week. Firefighters taught students about fire safety, including how to prevent fires, respond during emergencies, and the vital role firefighters play in our community.

Students in grades PreK–4 gathered outside as firefighters demonstrated their gear and showed how quickly they suit up for emergencies. They explained the function of their heavy suits, helmets, and oxygen tanks.

Hands-on activities included practicing “Stop, Drop, and Roll,” learning about smoke alarms, and discussing the importance of having a family escape plan. Students were encouraged to create one with their families.

A highlight of the day was a fire truck tour, where students explored equipment like hoses, ladders, and rescue tools, and listened to real-life firefighter stories. Curious students asked questions, and firefighters eagerly answered.

We’re thankful to our local fire department for sharing these valuable lessons. Fire Prevention Day reminded us all of the importance of fire safety and being prepared. Thank you to our community heroes!
